Crab roast

2 large Crabs cooked in shell (approx 2 lbs)

2 cups Grated coconut

2 1/2 large Onions (sliced)

4 tbsp Ginger Garlic paste

3 tbsp Coriander powder

3 tbsp Red Chilli powder

1 tbsp Garam masala powder

1 tbsp Turmeric powder

Salt to taste

3 tbsp Cooking oil

Preparing the crab

– Separate the legs from the crab

– Open the body and remove everything except for the white meat from in there

If you cannot get cooked crab, you could always get a live one, numb it and cook in a pot of boiling water

A good video on this and cleaning:

1. In a large deep pot/pan, heat 2 tbsp Oil, Turmeric powder, 2 tbsp Red chilli powder, 2 tbsp coriander powder, Garam masala powder and ginger garlic paste

2. Once the mix stops spluttering, add the coconut and fry till light brown

3. Add in the onions and salt and cook until tender

4. Remove this mix from the pan and let cool

5. Put in a blender/mixer and puree

6. Add the remaining oil to the pan and heat

7. Add the coriander powder and chilli powder

8. Mix in the pureed onion and spices mixture and cook for 5 minutes to form a thick gravy. Add any additional salt required at this stage

9. Place the crab pieces into the vessel and turn to coat with the gravy. Cover and cook for 5 minutes

10. Reduce heat and remove lid and cook for another 7-10 minutes

Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
