Cabbage thoran

Shredded cabbage stir fried with coconut might be one of the most common sides in a vegetarian meal in Kerala. That doesn’t make it any less flavorful. Spiced with ginger and green chillies it goes well with most South Indian gravies.


1 tbsp Coconut oil

1 tsp Black Mustard seeds

10 Curry leaves

4 Green chillies (chopped or minced)

3/4 cup Coconut (grated)

250 gm Green Cabbage (shredded or chopped fine)

Salt to taste


1. In a pan heat the oil and add mustard seeds

2. Once they splutter, add curry leaves and chillies and fry

3. Add coconut and saute for few minutes till light golden

4. Add the cabbage and salt to this and stir well

5. Cook until tender

Serve with hot rice
