Moru Kaachiyathu (spiced buttermilk curry)


1 tbsp Vegetable oil
1 tsp Black mustard seeds
6-8 Curry leaves
1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
3 Green chillies (slit lengthwise)
2 tbsp Ginger (finely minced)
50 gm Okra (1/2 inch slices)
2 cups India yoghurt
3 cups Water
Salt to taste


1. In a pan, heat the oil. Add the mustard seeds and let it splutter

2. Add the curry leaves, turmeric, green chillies and ginger to this and fry

3. Mix in the okra to this and fry for a minute

4. Add salt and 1/2 cup of water and cook closed for few minutes until the okra is cooked

5. In a bowl whisk the remaining water along with the yoghurt ensuring there are no lumps

6. Add the yoghurt-water mix to the pan and combine well. Turn off the heat

Serve lukewarm or cold with hot rice
